Frequently Asked Questions
Before marketing a deposit, we provide you with a Standardised Information Sheet, in the case of simple deposits, or an information prospectus, in the case of indexed or dual deposits, setting out the main characteristics of the deposit you intend to contract.
All characteristics set out in the Standardised Information Sheet and in the information prospectus are also included in the deposit contract, which is delivered to you at the time of subscription.
The Deposit Guarantee Fund (DGF) guarantees the reimbursement of the total amount of your deposits held with each credit institution, up to a maximum limit of €100,000 per depositor, considering the overall balance held with the same bank.
At the time of subscribing to a deposit, we provide you with the Depositor Information Form (DIF), which indicates the protection applicable to the deposit and whether it is eligible for coverage by the DGF. This information is also included in account statements, with the form being made available at least once a year.

Interest is calculated by applying the Nominal Interest Rate (NIR) applicable to the deposit to the amount invested for the agreed term. Interest is credited to the associated current account on the maturity date. Deposits do not capitalise interest during their term.
The interest earned is credited to the current account and becomes fully available in the client’s account.
It depends on the type of deposit contracted. Withdrawable term deposits allow for early withdrawal, either in full or in part, whereas non-withdrawable term deposits cannot be withdrawn before maturity.
For withdrawable term deposits, early withdrawal results in the total loss of the interest accrued on the amount withdrawn.
Deposits at Banco Finantia do not capitalise interest during their term. Upon maturity, the interest is credited to the associated current account and the customer may reinvest both the principal and the interest earned in a new deposit.
No. Term deposits do not allow for additional contributions, except by agreement between the parties.
Income from a term deposit is classified as investment income and is subject to withholding tax at a rate of 28%, with a final nature for Personal Income Tax (IRS) purposes and as a payment on account for Corporate Income Tax (IRC) purposes.
This tax framework corresponds to the regime in force at the start of the subscription period and may change during the term of the deposit. The regime described does not prejudice the application of any double taxation agreements applicable to entities not resident in Portugal and does not dispense consultation of the applicable legislation.
